Dr. Horace B. Hawthorn                       (From the collection of Vivian 
Norby Andersen)

	Dr. Horace B. Hawthorn, 91, 901 S. Mulberry St., professor emeritus of 
Morningside College, died Tuesday.
	Dr. Hawthorn was born Dec. 4, 1889, near Castana.  He married Hazel D. 
Waples Sept. 21, 1916, at Castana.
	Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. John (Miriam) Nye of 
Moville, Iowa and Mrs. Donald (Clarice) Watson of Eugene, Ore.; one son, Duane 
of Sioux City and Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; 
and a brother, Fred W. of Castana.
