He had been in ill health for several months, but death came sooner than had been expected. He had read the papers that morning. Doc, as he was known by everyone, was a bachelor. He had taken an active part in many community affairs, and especially in the Legion and community building. He was always more than willing to give a hand whenever needed. And he was a friend of everyone. Funeral services were held at Soldier Lutheran Church Wednesday, June 17 at 2:00 o’clock. Rev. F. W. Thomsen of Blair, Nebr. Gave the sermon. Burial was in Soldier Valley Cemetery under the direction of Oldham Funeral Home. Soldier Valley Post of the American Legion conducted military rites at the cemetery. Casket bearers were Art Olson, Roy Severson, Irvin Severson, Chris T. Olson, Clyde Dickinson and Carl Kaatz. Severt Holt, son of Hans and Anna Holt, was born October 28, 1889 near Soldier, Iowa and passed away Sunday afternoon, June 14 at his home in Soldier at the age of 70 years 7 months and 16 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Soldier. He served in World War I overseas and in active combat. He was a member of Veterans of World War 1, Barracks No. 1338 of Soldier, a member of the American Legion for forty-nine years, a member of Elk Lodge No. 586, A.F.&A.M. at Moorhead and a member of the Consistory. “Doc” was a fine citizen, a genial fellow, a friend to all including the children, but failing health kept him closely at home the past few years. Survivors are his two sisters, Minnie Peterson of the home, Inga Mangen of Ute; two brothers, Ole of Soldier and Oscar of Denver, Colo.; six nephews, six nieces, a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
