When 13 years old, he moved to Soldier, Iowa with his parents and continued to live and farm in the Soldier vicinity until 1958 when he moved to Storm Lake to become Superintendent of building and grounds at Buena Vista College. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Moorhead, Iowa at an early age and remained an active member of the Lutheran church until his death. On December 17, 1919, Efraim was united in marriage to Miss Clara Jensen at Onawa, Iowa and to this union six children were born: Arnold, Storm Lake; Harvey, Springfield, Virginia; Mrs. Helene Willis, Marshalltown; Mrs. Irma Sankey, Des Moines; Marion who preceded him in death, and Leland of Storm Lake. Survivors besides his wife and children include 17 grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held at Soldier Lutheran Church at 3:00 o’clcok (sic) Thursday, November 2 following a short service at Storm Lake at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Nave of Storm Lake handled the service there and Pastor Maynard Moen officiated at Soldier. Burial was in St. Clair cemetery at Ute under the direction of Hughes-Nelson funeral home of Storm Lake. A short Masonic service was held at the cemetery under the direction of the Ute Blue Lodge.
