All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ia/iafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Carolyn Jarvey iandaz@cox.net November 3, 2009, 12:49 pm unknown (Photo) Frederik Jensen (From the collection of Vivian Norby Andersen) Frederik Jensen, the youngest son of Rasmus and Jensine Jensen, was born in Foerlev, Denmark on April 6, 1884, and passed away at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa on July 19, 1963 at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 15 days. He grew to manhood in Denmark, taking up the trade of blacksmith. In 1905 he served his term in the Danish Army in the Coast Artillery. In 1907 he immigrated to the United States and settled in Minneapolis, Minn. On November 5, 1909 he was united in marriage to Sofie Sonnenborg, and to this union, seven children were born. In 1916 he and his family moved west where he took out a homestead near the town of Winifred, Montana. The family moved to Iowa in 1925, settling in Monona County where he farmed until 1936 at which time they moved to Onawa. In Onawa Mr. Jensen operated a service station for a number of years and then was ticket agent for the bus line until his retirement in 1961. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Denmark and was a devout Christian, always taking an active part in church affairs. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years, served on the Boards of Trustees and Deacons, and lived a life that was a testimony to his faith in God. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister, his beloved wife, Sofie, and one son who died in infancy. He leaves to mourn, six children, Anton of Springfield, Ill., Harry and Willie of Onawa, Elmer of Cozad, Nebr., Ella Moen of Stanhope, Ia., and Ina Stewart of Onawa. Also surviving are r14 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren, one brother, Louis of Tucson, Ariz., a number of nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Onawa, Ia., on Monday, July 22nd, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor John Carlsson officiating. Music was furnished by Miss Marie Lundberg with Miss Agnes Johnson at the organ. Bearers were his six grandsons, Robert, James and Bruce Jensen and Richard, Robert and Ronald Moen. Interment was in the Onawa cemetery. Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home.
