(Chuck) Johnson, 54, of Denison, former resident of the Soldier community, died quite suddenly at the Crawford county hospital at Denison Thursday night where he had been taken earlier in the day. He had been suffering form a heart ailment for the past few months but had been up and around prior to the day he died. Charley had been a resident of Denison since 1936where he had a law office and was district manager for Investors Diversified Services, the latter job occupying part of his time since 1937. He was born and reared in the Soldier community, the son of the late J. C. and Sarah (Knutson) Johnson. He attended high school here, at the time living on the farm now owned by Emil Sabakta. However, he finished high school at Hyde Park in Chicago. Receiving a degree in law from Northwestern university in 1934 he practiced law in Chicago before coming to Denison. He had also held a degree in Business administration. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian church in Denison with Rev. Robert Caldwell officiating. Burial was in Oakland park cemetery under the direction of the Maxwell funeral home. Masonic graveside services were given. A full church was on hand to pay last respects. Pallbearers were Rex Ruch, Ray Jenson, O. B. Carlson, Tell B. Wehrle, Chet Schlumberger, George Bagnall, K. C. Van Bramer, and Wm. McHenry. Honorary bearers were Barney Otto, Harry Stein, Floyd Page, Dr. M. Knapp, Kenneth Tamm, Everett Norelius, Leland Bachman, Andrew Pkorney and Griffin Eggers. “Chuck,” as he was known by his many friends, was most active in community affairs in Denison. He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce, master of the Masonic lodge, president of the West-Central Iowa Shrine organization, chairman of the Crawford county Red Cross and deacon of the Presbyterian church. He was a member of the Elks, Kiwanis, and the Sioux City Consistory. Mr. Johnson was born January 6, 1903 at Soldier. He is survived by the widow, two sons, Gary and David, both in high school; three brothers, Voyle and Glen of Chicago and Elliott of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
