At the time of his death he was 87 years, 10 months and 12 days old. Mr. Johnson came from Norway to the Soldier community at the age of six years with his parents. On June 24, 1907 ye was united in marriage to Ingeborg Sandvold at Sioux City, Iowa. Mrs. Johnson died on January 12, 1949. Throughout his lifetime Mr. Johnson engaged in farming and from 1907 until his retirement in 1943 he lived on a farm near Moorhead. Since that time he had made his home at Onawa. He had been ill about two weeks during which time he had been in the hospital. He Ws baptized in the Lutheran church in Norway and confirmed in the Soldier Lutheran church where he held membership until his passing. His survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Edith) Foss of Onawa; Mrs. Clarence (Alice) Johnson of Moorhead and Miss Ruth Johnson of Onawa, who made her home with her father and took care of him for many years; also one son Oscar Johnson of Moorhead, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. One daughter, Amanda died in infancy. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 15 at the Lutheran church in Soldier. Pastor Maynard Moen officiated at the service. Magnus Jepson sang, “My Jesus I Love Thee” and “Abide With Me” accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Jepson. Mrs. Harry Andersen was the organist. The active bearers were Clifford Young, Ralph Miller, Robert Underhill, G. L. Reinhardt and Lawrence Folsom of Onawa, Frank Phillips of Pisgah. Honorary bearers were Weaver Welliver, Moorhead, Chris Rustin, Soldier, and Carl Swenson, Edwin Olson, Marvel Lee and Nels Christensen of Onawa. Interment was in the Soldier Valley cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home.
