Death came as the result of an apparent heart attack. He was born August 4, 1889, a son of Peter and Mary Johnson. Martin had been a farmer all his life and always active and interested in the affairs of the community and country. Early in life he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was an active member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead. He was united in marriage to Hannah Sorenson on February 22, 1911 at Moorhead. She preceded him in death on October 11, 1934. On February 24, 1938 he was united in marriage to Hilma Norem at Soldier, Iowa. Mr. Johnson is survived by his widow, Hilma; three sons, Wilmer at Aldon, Iowa, Walter at Moorhead and Darrell at Blue Springs, Mo.; one daughter, Ila, now Mrs. Robert M. Denny of Alexandria, Virginia; one step- daughter, Irene, now Mrs. George Drozich of Denver, Colo.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jens of Belmond, Iowa and John P. or Moorhead. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ano LaJune and a son, Martin. Martin will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones and his many friends throughout the community. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 22 at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead with Pastor Harold E. Koehler officiating. Mr. Magnus Jepson sang “Beyond The Sunset” and “How Great Thou Art”, with Mrs. Magnus Jepson as accompanist. Organist was Miss Colleen Nielsen. Active bearers were Earl Ballantyne, Robert Nielsen, Ronald Shol, Eno Matthaidess, Gale Winegar and Lawrence Hieber. Honorary bearers were Dale Welliver, Guy Severson, Earl Pratt, Linzy Nuzum, Elmer Larson, Park Moorhead, Arvid Peterson and Arnold Ludwig. Interment was in Spring Valley Cemetery at Moorhead with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.
