Johnson, Former Banker, Dies (From the collection of Vivian Norby Andersen) Glenn M. Johnson, 72, Elmhurst, Illinois, a former Soldier banker, died unexpectedly at a Chicago hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 14. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Pearson Funeral Chapel in Onawa. Rev. David Johnson, son of Mrs. Charles Johnson and the late Charles Johnson of Denison officiated at the service. Mrs. Oliver Kelley provided the organ music. Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran cemetery at Soldier. Glenn M. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Johnson, was born October 3, 1894 at Moorhead, Iowa. He passed away in Chicago at the age of 72 years, two months and 11 days. He was united in marriage to Sophie Olson in 1926 at Sioux City, Iowa. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion. After leaving Soldier in the 1920s after the start of his banking career in Soldier Valley Savings Bank, he went to Chicago where he served as an officer in several banks for more than 45 years. At the time of his death he was Senior Vice President of Central National Bank of Chicago. Prior to that he had served as a vice president of Citizens National Bank and the National Bank of Commerce which merged with Central National two years ago. He was a member of the Illinois Bar Association, Delta Chi Fraternity and the Ridgemore Country Club. He was a graduate of St. Olaf College and Kent Law School. Survivors include his widow, Sophie; two brothers, Elliott Johnson of Houston, Texas and Voyle C. Johnson of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Charles T. and a sister, Helen.
