Putman and and(sic) Rev. Joel Boone officiating. Interment service at Spring Valley Cemetery was in charge of Elk Lodge No. 586 A.F.&A.M. Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier was in charge of arrangements. It was one of the largest funerals ever held in Moorhead with many of the mourners unable to get inside the church. Rolland Russell Jones, son of Earl and Clara Jones, was born July 21, 1909 in Jordan township and passed away at his home south of Moorhead on February 19, 1961 at the age of 51 years, six months and 27 days. At an early age he was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He remained a member until his passing. He attended grade school and high school at Soldier, Iowa, graduating with the class of 1926. He was untied in marriage with Inez M. Jones of Charter Oak on May 17, 1931. To this union three children were born: a son, Clarence died in infancy, Harry C. affiliated with the Johnson Commission Co. of Omaha, and Judith Ann, a sophomore at Morningside College in Sioux City. His entire life was spent in farming and his greatest joy was his work with livestock. He had been active in Farm Bureau work, 4-H club work, and had served on the Monona County Fair Board. His hobby was singing and for several years was a member of a male quartette from which he derived many hours of pleasure. He was a member of Elk Lodge No. 586 A.F.&A.M. of Moorhead, Sioux City Consistory, Abu-Bekr Shrine and Moorhead Chapter No. 528 Order of Easter Star. He was also a past member of the Adsel Club of Omaha. Russell enjoyed one of life’s greatest blessings, a friendly nature, honest dealings with his fellow men and a host of friends. All who knew him enjoyed his sense of humor and his cheerful attitude. He took a vital interest in his family and received much joy from his children. About five years ago he suffered a heart attack and had been afflicted to a certain degree since. His passing however, was a very sudden and severe shock to his parents, wife, children and friends. In addition to the immediate relatives already mentioned, he is survived by one sister, Margaret (Mrs. John Ballantyne) of Moorhead. The Clock of life is wound but once And no one has the power, To tell just when the hands will Stop, At a late or early hour. The silent messenger doth come, Sent by God who knoweth best. And calls our loved ones “Home” To their eternal rest.
