Mrs. E. J. Knutson Laid to Rest

	Funeral services for Mrs. E. J. Knutson were held at the church in 
Soldier Friday afternoon with the large church filled to capacity for the 
services.  Floral offering(sic) were many.  Among the organizations 
contributing were the business men of Soldier, Soldier Valley Post of the 
American Legion, Confirmation class, Five hundred Social Club, Soldier Ladies 
Aid, Sioux City Consistory, Ute Chapter O.E.S., Ute Masonic Lodge, National 
Fidelity Life Insurance Company of Kansas City, Kansas City agency, Soldier 
Golf Club, and Onawa Golf Club.  Besides there were many personal floral 
tributes.  The large attendance at the funeral and these many beautiful floral 
tributes truly reflects the popularity of Mrs. Knutson among her friends and 
in the organizations to which she held membership.
		OBITUARY
	Mrs. Mabel Knutson, nee Olson, was born in Willow Township on the 
Nineth(sic) of June, 1900.  She was from infancy a member of the Soldier 
Lutheran Church, from which church she also was laid to rest.  She was 
employed for several years by the Soldier Valley Saving Bank after attending 
High School.  Into holy wedlock she entered with Earl J. Knutson in 1923 on 
the 5th of September.  In their happy home they were blessed with a son, Earl 
J. Knutson Jr. who is but 8 months old at the departure of this young mother.
	Her father and two sisters preceded her in death.  Besides her loving 
husband and the infant son, she leaves to mourn her departure, her mother Mrs. 
Julia B. Olson, four sisters; Mrs. J. W. Thoreson, Mrs. Norval Swain, of 
Soldier and Mrs. V. J. Ayres of Sterling, Colorado and Mrs. B. H. Graham of 
Sioux City, Ia. and five brothers; Olius, Silas and Martin of Soldier and Milo 
and Edd of Hornick, Iowa.
	Many other relatives survive and a host of friends are left to mourn 
the early departure of a young woman of many excellent qualities.
	Flu—Pnuemonia developed from what seemed at the beginning only a 
common attack of tonsilitis.  After a brief illness she passed away early 
Wednesday morning, Nov. 20 and was laid to rest in the church cemetery south 
of Soldier, Friday Nov. 22 in the afternoon, Johannes Hoifjeld conducted a 
brief service at the home and a full funeral service at the town church and a 
solemn committal service by the grave.  A great floral offering was decorating 
the casket and the chancel of the church.  A part of the church choir rendered 
appropriate selections.  And a large attendance of local people and outsiders 
were in attendance.
	The pastor at the home read the beautiful story of Christ’s 
resurrection and at the church he preached from 1 Chronicles 22 from 
sentiments built on the closing of verse 5:(rip) “So David prepared abundantly 
before his death” and the first half of verse 19:  “Now set your heart and 
your soul to seek after Jehovah your God; arise therefore, and build the 
sanctuary (rip)
