She had been bedfast a number of hears, most of the time being cared for by her son and daughter-in- law, Mrs. and Mrs. Orren Lee. For nearly eighty years she lived in the Ute, Soldier and Moorhead area, coming to this country from Norway when she was nineteen. Funeral services were held at Soldier Lutheran Church Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Maynard Moen officiating. Mrs. Norman C. Hanson sang “Whiter Than Snow” and “The Lord’s Prayer”, accompanied at the organ by Miss Janice Olson. Burial was in Soldier Valley Cemetery under the direction of the Pearson Funeral Home of soldier. Pallbearers were grandchildren, Myrlin, Everett, Virgil, Elliott, Murl and Bryce Lee. Lena Lee was born in Gran, Hadelund, Norway September 20, 1861, the daughter of Eric and Bertha Ragnhilrud. She passed away at her home in Moorhead at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, January 2 at the age of 98 years, 3 months and 13 days. She was baptized and confirmed in Gran Church and grew to young womanhood in Norway. At the age of 19 she came to Monroe, Wisconsin where she spent one year with relatives, coming later to Moorhead where her brother, Gilbert Erickson was in the mercantile business. In November 6, 1884 she was married to Mitchell K. Lee at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Knute Lee. Their first home was on a farm near Ute. Later they moved to the Moorhead vicinity. To this union were born eight children, seven sons and one daughter-- Elmer and George of Soldier, Marvel of Onawa, Amos of West Des Moines, Orren of Moorhead, and Mrs. Alma Wilson of West Liberty, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband in April 1920 and two sons, Melvin and Bennett. She had been an invalid for eleven years or more and had made her home with her youngest son, Orren and wife Ruth and family. Until her health failed she was an active member of Soldier Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid Society. She leaves to mourn her passing 110 descendants representing five generations. She has two living sisters, one in Norway and Mrs. Oline Sandvold of Moorhead.
