He was 88. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. at The First Christian Church in Onawa Saturday, Jan. 9. Rev. Everett Epperson conducted the service and was assisted by James Dorsey. Mrs. Orland Ferris sang “Face to Face” and “Abide With Me”, accompanied by Mrs. Carl Linden. Interment was in Jordan cemetery west of Soldier under the arrangement of Pearson Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Donald, Elliott, Harlow and Newell Lund, Calvin Fox and Harry Kinion. Halvor Lund was born in Urskog, Norway on October 25, 1876 and passed from this life in the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa on Thursday, Jan. 7, 1965 at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 12 days. He came to the United States from Norway when he was 16 years of age. Choosing farming as his vocation he served in the work until 14 years ago at which time he retired and moved into Onawa. He was untied in marriage with Annie Leone Blowers at Soldier on January 4, 1905. She preceded him in death on March 15, 1913. On August 28, 1950 he was united in marriage with Edith Oliver at Wright, Minnesota. Mr. Lund was active in the First Christian Church of Onawa until his health prevented. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge at Onawa. Survivors include his wife, Edith of Onawa; three daughters, Vennie (Mrs. Fleming Harris) or Yorktown, Virginia; Evelyn (Mrs. Fred Reed) of Onawa, and Helen (Mrs. Robert Buffington) also of Onawa; one son, John Henry Lund of Onawa; twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Annie Olson of Dallas, Texas, and several other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by one infant son and an infant grandson.
