She was 83 years of age and was a life-long resident of Monona county. Minnie Olive Rude, daughter of Andrew and Esther Rude, was born July 28, 1878 at Callendar, Iowa. At the age of two she moved with her parents to a farm east of Moorhead where she grew to womanhood. She was confirmed at the age of 13 in the Soldier Lutheran Church where she was very active in the choir. She attended Onawa high school and Denison normal. At the age of seventeen she began her teaching career in rural school; later she taught kindergarten in the Moorhead public school. She also attended the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago where she studied voice. On March 24, 1901, she was united in marriage with George W. Martin, who passed away in 1933. To this union were born six children, two sons and four daughters. Mrs. Martin moved to Onawa with her family in 1907 and had been a member of Trinity Luther church since then. A tireless worker in the ladies aid society, she held the office of president for several years. She was presented with a life membership in that organization. At the age of 75 she was continuing to serve her Master as the teacher of a Sunday School class. Mrs. Martin is survived by one son, Wilbur R. of Anderson, Indiana; three daughters, Mrs. Julius (Eddith) Johnson of Onawa, Mrs. James (Mabel) Craford of Sibley, and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Bokorny of Hillside, Illinois; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Henderlider of Onawa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, one son, two half sisters, and two half-brothers. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8 at Trinity Lutheran church, pastor John Carlsson officiating. Mrs. Chris Gregersen and Mrs. Gene Baltaz sang “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say” and “I’m bur a Stranger Here”, accompanied at the organ by Miss Agnes Johnson. Casket bearers were Chris Gregersen, Harold Ravnsborg, Wallace Bergstrom, Hermann Giermann, Clark Ruffcorn and Gene Baltaz. Interment was in the Onawa cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home.
