Joe McManis Obituary                (From the collection of Vivian Norby 
Andersen)

	Joe S. McManis, a former resident of the Moorhead community died 
Friday, October 23, 1964 at Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Death came after a long 
illness and he had been critical the past two weeks.
	He was a son of John and Emma McManis and was born at Lamar, Mo. 
December 31, 1901.  He had reach the age of 62 years, 9 months and 22 days.  
He came to the Moorhead community as a young man and farmed in that vicinity.  
About 17 years ago he moved to Albuquerque to make his home due to his failing 
health.	
	He was united in marriage to Arlene Sheppard in 1925.  She died in 
1929.  On May 25, 1934 he was united in marriage to Cecil Nelson at Moorhead, 
Iowa.
	While living at Moorhead he was active in the Christian church.
	Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Art Holverson of 
Soldier; one son, Lawrence McManis of Dakota City, Nebr.; ten grandchildren; 
one brother, Clyde of Long Beach, Calif., and two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Sanders 
of Denver, Colo. And Mrs. Grace Higgins of Jerico, Mo.  A daughter died in 
infancy.
	Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 28 at the 
Christian Church in Moorhead.  Rev. Samuel Wall conducted the service.  Miss 
Etta Ballantyne sang “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Precious Lord, Take 
My Hand”, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Wayne Outhouse.  The casket bearers 
were Allan Nash of Denison, Stanley Hansen, Fredrick Knudsen, Versel Knudsen, 
Fred W. Bell and Harry Mortensen.  Interment was in the Spring Valley cemetery 
at Moorhead with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier.
