Nelsen, 91, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Soldier and Ricketts, died Monday, February 27, 1995, at the Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa. She was born August 26, 1903, to Holstein and Josephine (Hanson) Wingate at Soldier, Iowa. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed on June 27, 1917 in the Soldier Lutheran Church. She attended elementary and high school through grade 10 in Soldier and complete high school including normal training in Onawa. She was an elementary school teacher. On December 15, 1923, she married Jalmer Nelsen. The couple farmed near Soldier and later she moved to a farm near Ricketts, Iowa. Mr. Nelsen died November 25, 1959, in Onawa. Eunice was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church and was active in the ladies aid. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Merces and Gale Merrill of Hastings, Nebraska, Joan and Jack Smart of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Vonda and James Healy of Orlando, Florida; one son, LeRoy Nelsen of Onawa; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Darl Lee, and one brother, Lyman Wingate. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 3, 1995, at the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Church Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Soldier, Iowa.
