Allen Ness Obituary                            (From the collection of Vivian 
Norby Andersen)

	Allen O. Ness, a resident of Creston, Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 10 at 
the Veterans’ Hospital in Omaha soon after entering, apparently the result of 
a heart condition.
	Mr. Ness was born October 18, 1896 at Soldier, Iowa and grew to 
manhood in the Soldier community.  He was a son of Peter and Mary Ness.  He 
had been a resident of Creston since 1952 and was a veteran of World War 1.  
He was united in marriage to Laura B. Smith on October 17, 1928 in Chicago, 
Ill.
	Mr. Ness was a member of the Elks Lodge and Champaign Post No. 70, 
American Legion of Creston.
	Survivors include his wife, Laura, one daughter, Mrs. Dalton Jones of 
Bellevue, Nebr.; two grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Olaf T. Olson of Soldier and 
Mrs. Carl Sunner of Eagle Grove, Iowa; one brother, Harry Harris of Whittier, 
California.
	The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13th at the 
Lutheran church in Soldier.  Pastor Harry C. Sorensen conducted the service 
and Mrs. Harry Andersen was the organist.  Active bearers were Chris T. Olson, 
Arthur Olson, Andrew Navrude, William Lee, Irvin Severson and George Hanson.  
Honorary bearers from Creston were Howard Harris, Enid Johnson, L. A. Martin, 
A. Thompson, Harry Wager, A. J. Duben and Robert Kuhl.  The members of the 
Soldier Valley Post No. 462 ,American Legion of Soldier attended in a group 
and conducted military rites at the Soldier Valley Cemetery.  Larry Swain, 
Commander, was in charge.  Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home.
