Norby of Elizabeth, Minn. Died Thursday after an illness of 10 days following a stroke. He had suffered a stroke six years ago from which he recovered sufficiently to be up and enjoy life. Martin G. Norby was born Nov. 18, 1878 in Urskog, Norway. In 1880 he came tot he United State and to Soldier, Iowa, where he lived until 1914. He married Mary Anderson of Mapleton, Minn., Dec. 27, 1906. The family farmed near Ashby from 1914 to 1920, then on a farm in EagleLake(sic) township until 1938. From 1938 to 1947 they farmed near Elizabeth, and for the last six years they have lived in the village of Elizabeth. Mr. Norby was active in community life, serving on the school boards and several town and church boards. He was treasurer of the Augustana church at Elizabeth until his health worsened. A cheerful disposition and pleasure from his home, church, and friends endeared Mr. Norby to his associates. Surviving are Mrs. Norby, three daughters and one son: Mrs. Carl J. Nelson (Mildred), Fergus Falls; Mrs. Donald M. Colson (Gladys), Seattle; Leslie M. Norby, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Harold O. Nord (Doris), Pelican Rapids. There are three sisters and three brothers surviving in Iowa. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Augustana Lutheran church in Elizabeth with the Rev. E. E. Bostrom officiating. Henry and Edwin Norby, Mrs. C. J. Rustin and Mrs. Oscar L. Larson went up on Sunday to attend the funeral the following day.
