Although she had not been doing well since entering the hospital several weeks ago with a broken hip caused by a fall on the ice, her passing came as a shock to her many friends and relatives. Bertha was always active and every day would make the trip from “Morningside” to the post office. It was on one of these trips that she fell. Mrs. Norby had always been active in church work. Funeral services were held at Soldier Lutheran Church at 2:00 o’clock Wednesday, March 22. Pastor Maynard Moen officiated. Mrs. Norman C. Hanson was soloist and sang “Softly and Tenderly” and “I Heard The Voice of Jesus Say.” She was accompanied at the organ by Miss Janice Olson. Burial was in Soldier Valley Cemetery under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jay Watson, Vernon Clemon, Harry Andersen, Art Glau, Glen Rustin and Kleon Ballantyne. Bertha Norby was born in Valders, Norway, May 15, 1887. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church there on April 6, 1902. She passed away at the Lutheran hospital in Sioux City on Monday, March 20 after being confined there for several weeks due to a fall. She was 73 years, 10 months and five days old. She came to the United States on April 6, 1910. She was united in marriage to John Norby at Sioux City in March 1913. To this union one son was born. Surviving are the son, John Clifford of Minneapolis, Minn., three grandchildren and several nieces and other relatives and friends.
