Norby was born on October 24, 1887 at Soldier, Iowa and passed from this life at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa on Dec. 5, 1966 at the age of 79 years, one month and 11 days. Death came following a brief illness. He had been a resident of the Soldier community until 1938 where he farmed 10 years, then retired to an acreage at Little Sioux. For the past five years he had made his home at Turin. On March 1, 1911 he was united in marriage to Cora Burke at Onawa. He was a lifelong member of Soldier Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Cora; five daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Glau of Turin, Mrs. Delores Blundell of Bell, Cal., Mrs. Arla Ballantyne of California, Mrs. Arla Ballantyne of Moorhead, Mrs. Margaret Horracks of Lynn Wood, Wash., and Mrs. Marietta McCauley of Omaha; one sister, Mrs. Elma Larson and one brother, Henry Norby, both of Soldier; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 at Soldier Lutheran Church with Pastor Harry Sorensen officiating. A quartet composed of Jim Severson, Gordon Swenson, Gene Brenden and Gordon Foss sang “Have Thine Own Way Lord” and “Blest Be The Tie”, with Mrs. Harry Andersen as organist. Interment was in Soldier Valley cemetery with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home. Bearers were Harry Andersen, Jay Watson, Vernon Clemon, James Newman, Ronald Burke, and Gerald Thoreson.
