He had not been in the best of health for some time. Mrs. Olson lived in Willow township for many years and was active in community and church affairs. Funeral services were held at the Soldier Lutheran (south) Church on Monday, October 21 with Pastor Fitzgerald of Onawa, and Pastor John Kilde of Soldier in charge of services. Burial was in Soldier Valley cemetery under the direction of Oldham Funeral Home. Silas Olson, son of Chris and Julia B. Olson, was born in Willow township, Monona county, Iowa November 7, 1884. He passed away October 17, 1957 at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 21 days. He was united in marriage to Anna Tanberg in 1909. To this union seven children were born, one dying in infancy. Surviving besides the widow are six children, Mrs. Robert Hilbert of Salina, Kansas, Mrs. Martin Petersen of Mapleton, Mrs. John Valentine of Edgar, Nebr., Mrs. Hans Albertson of Sioux City, Mrs. Wilbur Kunze of Soldier and Chester of Castana; two brothers, Martin and Milo; one sister, Ella Graham; 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
