Olson, 55, Passes Away After Long Illness (From the collection of Vivian Norby Andersen) Victor W. Olson was born at Soldier, Iowa on October 31, 1907 and passed from this life in Elmwood Home on Wednesday morning December 26. Death came after several years of illness, he had reached the age of 55 years. Vic was born on the farm and had chosen to follow this vocation until his health failed. For the past 35 years, he has been in hospitals; private homes and nursing homes as a patient. In all the years of suffering he was never head to complain but was a constant source of inspiration to all who visited him. Early in life he accepted the Christ as his Saviour and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Soldier. While here in Onawa he became very closely associated with the First Christian Church. Survivors are his three brothers and one sister; Olius Olson of Mapleton, Iowa; Hilman Olson of Livermore, California; Melvin Olson of Daly City, California, and Mrs. Herman Hanson of Livermore, California; there are several nieces and nephews along with a number of other relatives and a host of friends. His parents and one brother Otto preceded him in death. Funeral service for Mr. Olson was held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 28 in the First Christian Church in Onawa. Rev. Everett Epperson officiated at the service and Mrs. Orland Ferris sang “God Be With You” and “Beyond the Sunset.” Mrs. Carl Linden was the organist. Casket bearers were Norman Hanson, Carl Wagner, Conrad Mathison, Everett Struble, Guy Hanson and Gordon Mann. Interment was in the Soldier Valley Cemetery at Soldier with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home.
