He had gone to the Gorham farm with his son, Glenn, who was delivering a truck load of railroad ties. When the truck became stalled on the edge of the crossing over the spillway, Mr. Olson got out of the truck and evidently stepped over the side and fell to the cement slab. Funeral services were held at Soldier Lutheran Church Monday, Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Harry Sorensen officiated. Mrs. Harry Andersen was at the organ. Mrs. Norman C. Hanson, soloist, sang “Beyond The Sunset” and “In The Garden”. Interment was in Soldier Valley cemetery under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier. Casket bearers were Maurice Graetz, Gary Quade, Arnold Olson, Elmer Torgerson, John Sheehan and Arlo Olson. Carl Olson, a son of Arne and Dorothy Olson, was born May 21, 1887 at Soldier, Iowa and passed from this life at Soldier on Friday, November 6, 1964 at the age of 77 years, five months and 15 days. He had been a resident of the Soldier and Sioux City communities all his life and had been a farmer. On December 12, 1909 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Seaton at Onawa, Iowa. He was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Edmond (Gary) Quade and Mrs. Leo (Opal) Sheehan, both of Sioux City; two sons, Lloyd of Ute and Glenn of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Ray (Belle) Dickinson, Sioux City, Mrs. Inga Hines, Soldier, Mrs. Roy (Dena) Outhouse, Woodbine and Mrs. William (Tena) Murray of Sioux City; five brothers, Ole of Collins, Mo., Ingvald of Turin, Amund of Harrisburg, So. Dak., Arthur and Olaf of Soldier, and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
