Olson Laid To Rest (From the collection of Vivian Norby Andersen) Chris T. Olson, 73, a resident of the Soldier community most of his life, passed away at the Veterans’ hospital in Omaha Sunday, Dec. 4 following a long illness. Death came suddenly, however, as he was sitting up in bed. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 7 at the Soldier Lutheran Church with Pastor Harry C. Sorensen officiating. Magnus Jepson was soloist and he sang “Beyond The Sunset” and “How Great Thou Art”, accompanied by Mrs. Magnus Jepson. Mrs. Harry Andersen was organist. Chris farmed south of Soldier most of his life and was active in many affairs of his township and the Soldier community. He served for several years as director and president of Jordan-Soldier Valley Telephone Co., was active in church and Legion affairs and a fine booster for everything that was good for his community. He was a veteran of World War I. Upon retiring from the farm a few years ago he and his sister Elma moved to Onawa. Survivors include four sisters, Elma Olson and Mina Olson, both of Onawa, Charlotte Mathison of Moorhead and Gilma Olson of Ames. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Grant E. Olson. Interment was in the Soldier cemetery under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home. Military rites were held by Soldier Balley Post 462 of the American Legion with Bryce Lee as Commander. Bearers were Vernon Christensen, Gordon Mann, Conrad Mathison, James Hartigan, Lynn Mann and Gene Brenden. A complete obituary will be given next week.
