Olson Heart Victim (From the collection of Vivian Norby Andersen) Chris E. Olson, a lifelong resident of the Soldier community, passed away Sunday, September 27 at the Elmwood Home in Onawa where he had resided since February 12th of this year. Death came unexpectedly of a heart attack. He had seemed in fairly good health although unable to be active in recent months. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30th at the Soldier Lutheran Church. Pastor Harry Sorensen officiated. Mrs. Bernard Berens sang “Beyond The Sunset” and “Saved By Grace,” accompanied by Mrs. Harry Andersen at the organ. Interment was in Soldier Valley cemetery under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier. Casket bearers were Wilton McDole, Kenneth Torgerson, George Butler, Tony Haugen, W. C. Knutson and John Dickinson. Chris E. Olson was born April 30, 1897 at Soldier, Iowa and farmed in this vicinity all his life until his retirement when he moved to Soldier several years ago. He was united in marriage to Christina Evenson on February 12, 1924 at Soldier. Mrs. Olson died on July 11, 1953 after a long illness. As long as health permitted, Mr. Olson took an interest in affairs of the church and community. He was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church. He is survived by three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mabel Olson of Moorhead, Mrs. Hazel Jones of Dunlap and Mrs. Ellen Rush of Hollywood, Calif.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Clara Evenson of Soldier and thirteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and an infant son.
