Olson Rites Held Here (From the collection of Vivian Norby Andersen) Alfred M. Olson, 77, of Carroll, a resident of the Soldier community many years, died at the Veterans’ hospital in Omaha Saturday. He had been in failing health for several weeks. Funeral services were held at Soldier Lutheran Church Tuesday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Harold Kieck of Carroll officiated. Mrs. Norman C. Hanson was soloist and sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Beyond The Sunset.” Mrs. Harry Andersen was at the organ. Interment was in Soldier Valley cemetery under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home of Soldiers. Soldier American Legion Post, with Lyle Meadows as Commander and Vernon Johnson as Chaplain, had charge of graveside rites. Alfred M. Olson was born on September 29, 1888 at Chicago, Illinois and passed from this life at the Veterans’ hospital in Omaha, Nebr. On Saturday, May 14, 1966 at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 15 days. He had been a resident of Carroll, Iowa since 1942 and was a retired service engineer for Feedwaters, Inc. He was a son of Christopher and Caroline Olson and for many years was a resident of the Soldier community. Mr. Olson had been in failing health for several weeks and entered the hospital in Omaha on Monday of last week. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Soldier and since living at Carroll had been a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church there. He was a veteran of World War I and served in the U. S. Army. He was a former member of the Soldier American Legion Post. He was united in marriage to Clara Nelsen on May 19, 1920 at Soldier. Survivors include his widow; one son, Willard R. Olson at Council Bluffs, Iowa; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Sophie Johnson, Elmhurst, Ill. And one brother, Tingvald A. Olson of Soldier; also a number of other relatives and many friends throughout this area.
