Mrs. Olson had not been feeling well for a short time and had been attended by Dr. Liska the night before her death, but her condition was not thought serious. Heart failure caused her sudden death at about five o’clock Thursday morning. Mrs. Olson had lived here nearly fifty years and had many friends. She was always prominent in church and community work. The large attendance and the many beautiful floral offerings at her funeral were fitting tributes from her many friends. The following obituary was read by Rev. Hoifjeld at the funeral services. Dorthea Knutson Bakkene Olson was born in Aurdal, Valders, Norway January 19, 1861. She was baptized and confirmed in the state church of Norway. She was married to Sargent Arne Olson June 22, in the year 1883. The young couple started out for this country the same month and came to Moorhead the following month. The family was blessed with 12 children whereof all survive except Anna Thonetta, who died in 1907. Following are the children surviving: Mrs. Ray Dickinson, Ole Olson, Mrs. Ray Outhouse, Arthur, Olaf, Ingval and Sigurd, all of Soldier, Carl of Danbury, Iowa; Amund of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Mrs. Wm. Murray of Sioux City. Besides these eleven children her husband, Arne Olson, survives, and her sisters, Mrs. Ole Rude, Mrs. Chris Hanson, Ingeborg and Inga, and brothers Ole, Erick and Uldric. Ingeborg, Inga and Uldric live in Norway. She leaves also 22 grandchildren. Mrs. Arne Olson passed away in her sleep early Thursday morning of last week. She had not been so well for some time but she was up and around till the last day. Funeral services were held in the Soldier church with a large attendance, last Saturday afternoon, and interment was made in the Soldier Valley cemetery.
