She had been taken there Sunday after suffering a stroke at her home in Soldier. Her death came as a shock to the community as she apparently had been feeling quite well. Mrs. Rustin had always been active in the Soldier Lutheran Church in which she had been a member all her life. In 1955 she was given a Life Membership award by the Ladies Aid, having joined in 1910. Funeral services were held at the Soldier Lutheran (south) Church Wednesday July 25 at 2:00 o’clock. Rev. Gabriel tweet of New York City, a former Soldier pastor, gave the sermon in the absence of Pastor Maynard Moen who had left Sunday on his vacation and was unable to be contacted. Pastor Tweet and family happened to be visiting in the home of Mrs. Tweet’s parents, the Bennett Skows at Onawa. Mr. Norman Hanson was soloist and sang, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Abide With Me.” Miss Margaret Evenson was organist. Interment was in Soldier Valley Cemetery under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home. Bearers were Dwayne Hanson, Bennett Hagen, Martin Kalskett, Carl Dahl, Bus Reedy and William Lehmberg. Julia Mathilda, daughter of Maren and Gunerius Norby, was born in Willow township, Monona county on July 6, 1885 and passed away at the Lutheran hospital in Sioux City Monday, July 23, 1962 at the age of 77 years and 17 days. She was a lifetime resident of the Soldier community and was baptized and confirmed in Soldier Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Chris J. Rustin March 24, 1910 at Soldier. To this union three children were born. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1960. Survivors include the husband; one son, Glen of Lawton, Iowa; two daughters, Merle (Mrs. Ernest Lucken) of Le Mars, Iowa and Leone (Mrs. Jay Watson) of Smithland, Iowa; nine grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Alma L. Larson of Dunlap, two brothers, Henry Norby or Soldier and Edwin Norby of Turin, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Hilda and four brothers, John, Ole, Martin and Adolph Norby.
