He had been an invalid for many years. Funeral services will be held at the Soldier Lutheran (South) Church this Thursday, June 5 with Pastor Harry Sorensen officiating. Interment will be in Soldier Valley Cemetery under the direction of Walter Funeral Home of Ute. Gilbert was born November 7, 1904 in Soldier township east of Soldier. He lived with his brothers on the farm before moving to Ute in 1950. He was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church. Survivors include: two brothers, Haldor of Ute and Adolph of Soldier; two sisters, Mrs. Peter (Alete) Laumbach of Ute and Mrs. Erette (Gunda) French of Whiting, besides a number of other relatives and friends. Obituary (From the collection of Vivian Norby Andersen) Gilbert Rye, son of Ole and Mary Rye, was born Nov. 7, 1904 in Soldier township, Monona county, Iowa. He lived with his parents in the Soldier community. After his parents died he lived with his brother, Haldor, until 1950 when they moved to Ute. He was baptized as a young boy into the Lutheran faith and was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church. Mr. Rye died Tuesday, June 3, 1969 at a Mapleton nursing home after a lingering illness at the age of 64 years, 6 months and 26 days. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Peter (Alete) Laumbach of Ute and Mrs. Errett (Gunda) French of Whiting; two brothers, Haldor Rye of Ute and Adolph Rye of Soldier. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and four brothers. Funeral services were held June 5 at Soldier Lutheran Church with Pastor Harry Sorensen officiating. Interment was in Soldier Valley cemetery. Pallbearers were Vernon and Lyle Johnson, Clifford and Lowell Amunson and Eugene and Richard Bockelmann.
