Shull, son of Arthur and Bess Shull, was born December 8, 1913 in Kennebec township, northwest of Turin and died unexpectedly at the Onawa hospital of Monday afternoon, October 16, 1961. He had not been feeling well for several days prior to his death and had come to his doctor earlier in the day for medical examination. On March 2, 1941 he was united in marriage to Lavonne Sandvold at Soldier, Iowa. He had engaged in farming all of his life in the Kennebec community. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Soldier and was at the time of his death a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Onawa. For many years he had been president of the Kennebec rural independent school district. His survivors include his wife, Lavonne; one son, Keith and a daughter, Kathryn; a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Hupp, all of Turin; a nephew, Donald Hupp has been very close to the family and worked for Ronald on the farm. There are also a number of other nephews and nieces, other relatives and a host of friends, all of whom mourn the passing of a kind and sincere friend and loved one. He was preceded in death in 1942 by a son, James Oscar. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 19th at the Trinity Lutheran church. Pastor John Carlsson officiated. Evan Davies sang “My Faith Looks Up to Thee” and “What A Friend We Have in Jesus”, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Oliver Kelley. The casket bearers were W. S. Whitlock, Robert Maule, Merle Shaffer, Bill Hathaway, Oscar Leff Jr. and Ralph Wickersham Jr. Interment was in the Onawa cemetery with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home.
