The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22 at Trinity Lutheran church in Onawa with Pastor Don Sarff of Sioux City officiating. Dean Roberts of Greenfield, Iowa sang “Near The Cross”, accompanied by Mrs. Gene Baltz. Interment was in Soldier Valley cemetery at Soldier. Casket bearers were Andy Ballantyne, Howard Shol, Don and Paul Richardson, David Skow and Dennis Bielenberg. Pearson Funeral Home was in charge. Bennett H. Skow, a son of Ole and Belle Skow, was born April 28, 1892 at Moorhead, Iowa and passed from this life at the Burgess Memorial hospital in Onawa on Thursday, May 20, 1965. He was 73 years and 22 days of age at the time of his death. On July 8, 1914 he was united in marriage to Mae Olinger at Onawa, Iowa. Mr. Skow had been a resident of Onawa since 1937 where he engaged in the insurance business. Prior to that time he had been in the clothing business at Soldier and for a time was a car salesman for the McKenney-Seabury Co. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Onawa and prior to that was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church. Survivors include his widow, Mae; one daughter, Mrs. Bethine Tweet of New York City; two sons, Gordon of Mapleton, Iowa and Robert at Toledo, Iowa. There are eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also one sister, Mrs. Ella Severson of Sioux City and a number of other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann, who died at the age of three years; three brothers, Oscar, Lewis and Julius, and two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Shol and Mrs. Mark Ballantyne.
