	Lena Marie Swain, 90, of Mapleton, Iowa, formerly of Soldier, Iowa, 
died Friday, July 10, 1998, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.
	Lena was born May 5, 1908, in Fort Scott, KS, the daughter of Fred and 
Nancy Jane “Jennie” (Sheutz) Hamlin.  She married  June 1, 1931 to LeRoy Swain 
in Independence, Iowa.    Mr. Swain died Jun 12, 1973, in Sioux City, Iowa.  
She moved to the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton on August 16, 1996.
	
	Survivors include two sons, both of Soldier; four daughters, one 
daughter-in-law; twelve grandchildren, one sister and her husband, one brother 
and his wife, ; one sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
	She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Larry 
in  1965; one son, Gordon, in infancy; one daughter-in-law, JoAnn Swain in 
1967; and two brothers.
