Death came from a heart attack. Mrs. Swenson had made her home in Soldier since she and her husband, Isaac Swenson Sr. retired from the farm several years ago. Mr. Swenson died in 1951 and she has lived alone since. Mrs. Swenson was always active in church affairs and was always friendly with those she associated with in the community. Funeral services were held Monday with a short prayer service at the home preceding the 2:00 o’clock service at Soldier Lutheran Church. Pastor Raymond Moen gave the sermon. Vocal music was by Mrs. Bernard Berens of Dow City, who sang “Beautiful isle of Somewhere” and “Beyond The Sunset”, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Harry Andersen. Interments was in Soldier Valley Cemetery under the direction of the Pearson Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Leonard and Alvin Heistand, Glen Butler, Howard McLaughlin, Walter Summerfield and Claire Lovell. Bessie Swenson, daughter of Clem and Bessie Lovell, was born at Moorhead, Iowa November 7, 1888. She passed away at her home in Soldier January 8, 1960 at the age of 71 years, two months and one day. She was baptized in the Methodist Church at Sioux City, Iowa and became a member of the Lutheran Church after her marriage to Isaac Swenson on March 21, 1911. To this union were born four children, two sons, George, who preceded her in death in July 1942 and Isaac B. Swenson Jr. of Soldier, and two daughters, Mrs. Ray Lumley of Chicago, Illinois and Mrs. Ronald Smith of Moorhead. Mrs. Swenson was a life-long resident of the Soldier and Moorhead vicinities. Left to mourn her passing are the one son and two daughters; eight grandchildren, five sisters, Mrs. Will Summerfield of Dunlap, Mrs. Dean McLaughlin of Logan, Mrs. George Butler of Soldier, Mrs. George Heistand of Woodbine and Mrs. Minnie Heistand of Moorhead, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
