She had not been feeling well for a few days before her death. Mrs. Swenson was only 50 years old, the mother of three fine sons. She was one of Soldier’s most hhighly respected women—one who was always willing to do her part in the church and community and to help others. She was a devoted wife and mother and at all times taught her children the right ways of life. This fact was born out when her son, Clayton, was awarded the American Legion award at graduation exercises this spring. Funeral services were held at the south church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Hoff in charge of the sermon. Burial was in Soldier Valley cemetery under the direction of Ralph Oldham. Mrs. Ida Swenson, daughter of Andrew and Annie Nelson, was born May 13, 1894 at Soldier, Iowa, where she was baptized in the Lutheran church. In childhood she moved to South Dakota, after the death of her father, where she lived for several years, later coming back to Soldier. While in South Dakota she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On October 14, 1925 she was united in marriage to Adolph Swenson and to this union were born three sons. She was a faithful and loving wife and mother, giving of her time and strength unselfishly for her family and home, earnest in her desire to give her boys Christian training in the home and in the Sunday school. Her health began to fail some time ago and on Saturday, June 10 she submitted to an operation at the Lutheran hospital in Sioux City after which she suddenly passed away at the age of 50 years and 28 days. Her death came as a shock to all, and she leaves to mourn passing, her devoted husband, three sons, and Helen Haugen Swenson who made her home there for many years. She is also survived by three brothers: Nicholai, Severine and Joseph, and two sisters: Carrie and Mary, and one half sister, Selma. She was preceded in death by her parents, three half-brothers and four half-sisters. A large number of other relatives and friends also mourn her loss as she was a kind and friendly person who will be sadly missed. We thank God for her life and pray that He will bless her memory among us.
