	Walter Arnold Thies, son of Fritz Henry Thies and Anna Peterson, was 
born January 2, 1917, at Soldier, Iowa.  
	On September 1, 1943, he and Emma Voss were married at St. Paul.  
	Walt died October 23, 1995, at Crawford County memorial Hospital, 
Denison, Iowa at the age of 78 years.
	Survivors include his wife, Emma of Dunlap; three daughters, Jayna 
Malone and husband Vic of Dunlap, Jean Knoll and husband Eddy of Bennet, NE, 
Arlene Merritt of Westmont, IL; two sons David Thies and wife Nancy of 
Earling, IA and Brian Thies and wife Cheri of Defiance, IA; one brother, Rudy 
Thies of Mapleton, IA; two sisters, Esther Berg of Appleton, WI, and Hilda 
Timm of Vancouver, WA; fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
	He was preceded in death by one daughter, Arla Mae; two brothers, 
Fritz and Elmer; two sisters Frieda and Linda; one granddaughter, Debbie; one 
grandson, Steven; and two great grandchildren.
