    Norma E. Thompson, 77, of Smithland died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Sioux 
City, IA.  Norma Ella Alwena Thompson was born Feb. 6, 1925, in Ute, Iowa, the 
daughter of Ernest and Edna (Bartels) Engelke. She was married to Howard 
Thompson on Jan. 4, 1942, in South Sioux City. 

Survivors  are a stepson and his wife, Arnold and Dolores Thompson of Missouri 
Valley, Iowa; two sons, Randy Thompson and his wife, Sherry of Onawa, Iowa, 
and Bruce Thompson and his fiancee, Kathy Gillette of Smithland; four 
daughters, Phyllis Wax of Salix, Iowa, Dianne and her husband, Roger Beck of 
Sioux City, June and her husband, Melvin Neddermeyer of Charter Oak, Iowa, and 
Pat and her husband, Lowell Penning of Le Mars, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; and 13 
great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Howard, she was preceded in death by her parents; 
two grandchildren, Randy Thompson and Niki Beck; two sisters, Erna and Velma; 
and a brother, Ralph.
