She was found sitting in her chair and had evidently passed away quietly and without warning. She had a flashlight with her indicating that her death came when the lights were out due to the electrical storm Sunday evening. She was found about three o’clock Monday afternoon. Mrs. Thoreson, who lived alone since the death of her husband, was always active in church and ladies aid affairs. Funeral services were held at the Soldier Lutheran Church Wednesday afternoon, July 20 at 2:00 o’clock. Pastor Maynard Moen officiated. Mrs. Bernard Berens of Dow City sang “Softly and Tenderly” and “Asleep In Jesus”, with Miss Janice Olson at the organ. Burial was in Soldier Valley Cemetery under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier. Pallbearers were Clifford Berg, James Pickle, Lester Langendorfer, Clifford Thoreson, Bernard Thoreson and Glen Thoreson. Mrs. Thoreson was born July 1, 1881 at Torpen, Norway and came to the United States and Soldier with her parents at the age of one. She had resided in the Soldier area ever since. She passed away at her home in Soldier, Sunday, July 17 at the age of 79 years and 17 days. She was confirmed in the Soldier Lutheran Church June 9, 1895 and remained a faithful member until her death. On May 25, 1910, she was united in marriage to Haldin Thoreson by the Rev. Bakken. To this union two children were born. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clifford Swenson of Soldier and one son, Norman of Moorhead; six grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Berg and Mrs. Andrew Navrude of Soldier, and one brother, Nels Berg of Onawa.
