Everything possible was done to make her last months as comfortable as could be and for some time she had been a resident of the beautiful Martin Luther Home where her children saw to it that she had the best treatment and surroundings possible. Theolena Kalskett, daughter of Herman and Louisa Kalskett, was born March 6, 1888 on a farm near Ute, Iowa. At an early age she moved with her parents to a farm near Moorhead where she attended school and later taught in the Moorhead and Soldier communities. On April 12, 1911 she was united in holy wedlock to Adolph Thoreson. To this union eight children were born. Her husband, one daughter, Edith Leone, one brother, Fred and one sister, Klara, preceded her in death. She is survived by seven children, Howard and Raymond of Sioux City; Edna of Omaha; Clayton, of Kansas City; Margaret of Cleveland, Ohio, and Robert and Glen of Moorhead; eighteen grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, Martin and Winston of Moorhead, and seven sisters, Mable, of Soldier, Augusta and Helen, of Denver, Hazel, of Belmond, Mary Anne, of Ames, Millie, of Moorhead and Nell, of Des Moines. She lived her entire life on the family farm in Soldier Valley. On December 18, 1961, she suffered a stroke and was taken to the Lutheran hospital in Sioux City. On February 1, 1962 she was moved to the Martin Luther Home in Sioux City where she passed away Friday, June 8. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a life long member of Soldier Lutheran Church. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. in Soldier Lutheran Church (Country) on Monday, June 11 with Rev. Maynard Moen officiating. Mrs. Norman C. Hanson sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “I’m But A Stranger Here”, accompanied on the organ by Miss Jean Amunson. Bearers were James, Herman and Warren Kalskett, Maynard Olson, Loren Olson and Bernard Thoreson. Interment was made in the Soldier Valley Cemetery under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier.
