Pastor Maynard Moen gave the sermon. Miss Janice Olson was at the organ. Mrs. Norman C. Hanson sang “Heaven Is My Home” and “Rock of Ages”. Interment was in the St. Clair cemetery at Ute under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier. Pallbearers were Bill Knutzen, Bill Jungen, Virgil M. Olson, Elmer Price, Joe Lakner and Alvin Johnson. Allen Silas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Torgerson, was born July 30, 1908 at Soldier, Iowa and passed away on Mary 24, 1961 at the age of 52 years, nine months and 24 days. He was baptized and confirmed in Soldier Lutheran Church and attended schools in the Soldier area. Most of his life was spent in farming and for the past three years he lived in Ute. On November 14, 1931 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Fester at Dunlap, Iowa. To this union one son, Leo was born. Surviving besides the widow, are his son, Leo, with the armed forces in Japan; his father, Ole Torgerson of Soldier; three sisters, Mrs. John (Ella) Hartson of Sioux City, Mrs. Roy (Mable) Savery of Charter Oak, Mrs. Charles (Gladys) Butler of Moorhead; two brothers, Elmer and Kenneth, both of Soldier; and two grandchildren.
