She suffered a stroke about three weeks ago from which she never recovered. Mrs. Torgerson came to Soldier from Norway in 1890. She was a kind and devoted mother, one who was loved by all who knew her. Mrs. Ella Torgerson was born in Aurdal, Norway December 1, 1854. Her parents were Ole and Anna Swenson Naverud. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Norway, where she also attended the public schools. On the 12th of February, 1878 she was united in marriage to Andrew Torgerson. The following children were born to this union: Torger, Ole, Martin, Annie, Alfred, Emma, Einar and Minnie. The four oldest were born in Norway. Mrs. and Mrs. Torgerson emigrated to the United States in 1890 and located on a farm in the vicinity of Soldier. They moved to Moorhead in 1919 and later to Soldier in 1920. From Torgerson was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church and the Soldier Ladies Aid. She was in good health until the last three weeks when she suffered a heart attack. She died at her home in Soldier Monday morning, May 12 at 6:30 a.m. At the time of her death she was 86 years, 5 months and 11 days old. Surviving are seven children, namely Torger of Charter Oak, Ole of Ute, Martin of Soldier, Einar of Orson, Mrs. Anna Benson of Pipestone, Minn., Mrs. Emma Timm of Soldier, and Mrs. Minnie Meadows of Moorhead; thirty-four grand children, and forty-three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died last August 31; a son Alfred, who died in a camp at Boston November 6, 1918, and a brother, Swen Navrud, who died last October. Funeral services were held from Soldier Valley Lutheran Church on Wednesday, with Rev. Hoff in charge.
