Pastor Maynard Moen gave the sermon. Mrs. Bryce Lee sang “Rock of Ages” and “Beyond the Sunset”, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Harry Andersen. Burial was in Soldier Valley Cemetery with interment services in charge of Soldier Valley Post 462 of the American Legion. Pallbearers were Martin Hanson, Chris T. Olson, Don Pedersen, Irvin Severson, Otto Foss and Clyde Dickinson. Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier was in charge of arrangements. Oren Vahler, son of Holstein and Lena Vahler, was born at Soldier, Iowa October 14, 1887 and passed away at the Onawa hospital January 18, 1961 at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 4 days. He was a member of Soldier Lutheran church and was confirmed in 1908. He was a resident of the Soldier community all his life and was a carpenter by trade. He served in the Army in World War 1 and was a member of the Soldier Legion Post. Surviving are one brother, Leonard with whom he had lived, two sisters, Elizabeth Kearns and Hilma Hannibal, and a number of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother Paul, two sisters, Belle Christensen and Ruth Olson, and by his parents.
