JOHN WANGBERG CALLED TO REST (From the collection of Vivian Norby Andersen) Rev. Johan O. Wangberg, 93, passed away Sunday evening, August 15 at a Council Bluffs hospital, following a three weeks illness. Mr. Wangberg had relatives in the Soldier community and at times preached at Soldier Lutheran Church. Born at Frosta, Norway, he came to the United States at the age of 19. A retired Lutheran minister, Rev. Wangberg attended St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn. A 1906 graduate of Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., he was ordained a Lutheran minister that same year. He served pastorates at Mohall, North Dakota, Irwin, Iowa; Bowman, North Dakota; Rolfe, Iowa and Ottosen, Iowa. He retired in 1953 and moved to Co. Bluffs. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church there. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda, on December 24, 1953. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Martha Wangberg, teacher at Thomas Jefferson high school in Co. Bluffs, and Mrs. Judith King, former resident at Nickerson, Kansas, registered nurse at Jennie Edmundson hospital; two sons, Rev. Orland Wangberg, Duncomb, Iowa and Rev. Reuben Wangberg, Thief River Falls, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, Johannes living in Norway; nieces and nephews. Mr. Wangberg has made his home with his two daughters. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs with Rev. Werner Bischoff, pastor, officiating. Graveside services were at Soldier Valley Cemetery at Soldier at 2:00. Meyer Funeral Home of Co. Bluffs was in charge.
