 LUCIA
WESTERGAARD		            (From the collection of Vivian Norby 
Andersen)

	Lucia, daughter of Nicholai and Patricia Bjornsen, was born in Vinum, 
Denmark, in 1897, the next to youngest in the family of three daughters and 
seven sons.  
	By 1920 Lucia  met and married another young Danish émigré Knud 
Westergaard, who was engaged in farming in the Whiting area with brothers 
Peter, Chris, and Walter.  Lucia and Knud were married on May 20, 1920.  To 
their family were born two children – Harold Jens in 1921 and Ellen Marie in 
1924.
	
	Preceded in death by Knud in 1966, and Harold in 1973, Lucia died 
suddenly on July 28 in West Des Moines, I.  Lucia lived for the last four 
months of her life with her daughter and son-in-law West Des Moines, IA.  Her 
family includes Ardyce (Mrs. Harold) Westergaard, and five grandchildren and 
their families.
