It was believed he died of a heart attack early that morning and was found by his landlady. He had been ill for a few days. Mrs. Wingate, who farmed in the Soldier vicinity for a number of years before moving to Sioux City sometime in the 1930s, was a taxicab driver at the time of his death. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27 at Soldier Lutheran Church with Pastor Maynard Moen giving the sermon. Burial was in Soldier Valley Cemetery under the direction of Nelson-Berger Funeral Service of Sioux City. Pallbearers were Donald and Virgil Lee, Leroy Nelsen, Roy Looney, Clarion Hanson and Roy Severson. Lyman Johnathan Wingate, 59 years of age, died Wednesday morning at his residence in Sioux City. He was born September 25, 1900 at Soldier, Iowa. Mr. Wingate had farmed in the Soldier and Denison areas before moving to Sioux City. Surviving are the widow, Inez, of Sioux City; one son, Roger B. of Birmingham, Alabama; one sister, Mrs. Eunice Nelsen of Soldier, and two grandchildren.
