FRED W. WONDER PASSES TO HER REWARD Nettie M. Day Wonder was born January 4, 1887, at Plattville, Illinois, and died at her home in Onawa, Tuesday evening, August 10, 1937, following a lingering illness. She was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Day, of Pullman, Washington, but former residents of this community. With the exception of a few years Mrs. Wonder had spent her entire life in and near Onawa. On October 6, 1907, at Onawa, she was united in marriage to Fred W. Wonder, and to this union was born one son. Words fail us when we try to pay a final tribute to one who has been so closely associated with our lives the past thirty years, but God has seen fit to call this good wife and mother from our midst. Mrs. Wonder has been a patient sufferer for the past few years and everything possible was done that loving hands and medical skill could do, but to no avail; and God called her very peacefully to that home where there is no pain, no tears, no sorrow. She was a member of the First Christian church, of this city, and until her health failed, was active within its organizations, but her home was her shrine; she loved it, and she lived for her family, and never once failed to find comfort and peace with Him who knoweth best, for no brilliancy of mind, no beauty of character, no power of wealth can escape this final decree that God has written. All of us, regardless of rank or power, must sooner or later take that pilgrimage to that “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere”. This is His will. Then let us be guided by the gentle influence of our loved one who has gone on before and gather up the sunbeams that she scattered and weave them into Memory’s Golden Chain. May we be happy that she is with Him who giveth His loved ones sleep. He sees when their footsteps falter, When their hearts grow weak and faint; He knows when their strength is failing, And listens to each complaint; He bids them rest for a season For the pathway has grown too steep; And, folded in fair green pastures, He giveth His loved ones sleep. Like weary and worn-out children That sigh for the daylight close He knows that they oft are longing For home and its sweet repose. So he calls them in from their labor E’er the shadows round them creep, And silently watching o’er them, He giveth His loved ones sleep. Weep not that their toils are over, Weep not that their race is run, God grant we may rest, and calmly, When our work, like her’s is done. ‘Till then we would yield with Gladness, our treasure to Him to keep And rejoice in the sweet assurance He giveth His loved ones sleep. Surviving are the widower, Fred W. Wonder, publisher of the Onawa Democrat, one son, William, daughter-in-law, Mrs. William Wonder, one grandchild, Fred W., her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. G.
