The boat was almost touching at the landing, near midnight, when Chambers, who was assisting in shoveling out the gang plank, made a misstep and fell between the boat and a barge alongside. This was the last seen of him. He leaves a wife and six children, the oldest but of twelve years of age, in destitute circumstances.
