Benner September 26, 1867, at Oregon, Ill.; children: J. Frank, Mattie E., Hattie B., Will H., Nellie R., Howard E., Benner S. Enlisted August 13, 1862, at Lima, O., Company A, One Hundred and Eighteenth Ohio Infantry, Second Brigade, Second Division, Twenty-third Army Corps; appointed Corporal March 1, 1865; wounded in foot at Kenesaw Mountain; served in battles of Kingston, Tenn.; Resaca, Kingston, Ga.; Big Shanty, Kenesaw Mountain, Atlanta, Altoona, Franklin, Fort Sugar Loaf, N. C.; Salisbury, N. C.; discharged Salisbury, N. C, June 24, 1865. Settled in O'Brien County February, 1880, and located in practice of law at Primghar and Sheldon. Died March 12, 1907, and buried at Sheldon. Member Joe Hooker Post, G. A. R., Sioux Falls, S. D.; S. F. Jordan Post, G. A. R., Primghar; McKenzie Post, G. A. R., Sheldon; also Union Veterans' Union.
