Married to Philena Young February 6, 1886; children: Thomas, Adam, William and Charles. Enlisted, Allamakee County, Iowa, February 18, 1862, in Company H, Sixteenth Regular United States Army, Third Brigade, Second Division, Fourteenth Corps; served three years and participated in engagements of Stone River, Marietta, Peach Tree Creek, Kenesaw Mountain, Atlanta, Jonesboro; was wounded in thigh at battle of Stone River; discharged February 18, 1865, at Lookout Mountain. Settled at Hartley, in O'Brien County, October 2, 1883. Member Methodist Episcopal Church; G. A. R. Post, and Relief Corps, at Hartley.
