(born 1811), and mother, Nancy Spence (born 1812), both in Lewis County, Kentucky. Married his wife, Annie, in 1885; children: William, Ora, Roy, Frank, Harry, Charles, Ralph, Otto, Gertie, and Betsey. Enlisted in Company K, Thirty-second Iowa Volunteer Infantry, July 13, 1862, at Albion, Iowa. Served in battles at Pleasant Hill, Mansfield, Fort Donelson, Nashville, Mobile, Greentown, Spanish Fort, Ala.; discharged August 24, 1865, at Clinton, Iowa.
