Rose Hill Cemetery, Hepburn, Valley Township The Rose Hill Cemetery of Hepburn, Iowa, is located on NE 1/4, SW 1/4 of Section 31, of Valley Township. Is located adjacent (west) of the Rose Hill (now called) Methodist Church, about 2 1/4 miles southwest of the town of Hepburn. It was read on 31 Jul 1973, by Barbara Hartman, Betty Ankeny, Elaine Artlip, and Eleanor Crawford. The interments are platted with starting at the northeast corner of the cemetery from North to South, with rows East to West. Rose Hill Cemetery - History This cemetery was originally part of the "Rose Hill United Brethren Church" which was formed with nine members. George Cagley and wife Angeline Cagley, S. Markel and wife, William Sullivan, Maria and Sarah Shepard, L. Markel, and Samuel Wolf. They had their first meeting in a log schoolhouse in Douglas Township. George Cagley saw the need for a church building, and, in 1867, he gave two acres of this land, and a little church was built on it. He said "this shall be started in the United Brethren Faith and shall be called the Rose Hill Chapel, and the cemetery shall be called Rose Hill Cemetery." On January 25, 1877, eleven articles of incorporation were recorded in Page County by James L. Brown. It was signed on January 29, 1877, by J.D. Sullivan, Benjamin Piper, James T. Wornom, Robert Cree, and George Cagley. On September 18, 1890, the board of trustees of Red Hill Cemetery appraised the church house and cemetery for $300. About 1891, this building was sold to Robert Cree and was moved across the road east of the present site to the Kirby place to be used as a granary. On January 19, 1892, a new church was dedicated. This church cost about $1,700 and Reverend P.C. Vickmire was presiding elder. In 1951, the United Brethren Church united with the Evangelical Church and is now known as the Evangelical United Brethren Church. It is not known when it was changed to the Methodist Church. Rose Hill Cemetery Rose Hill Cemetery is located in Section 31, Valley Township, Page County, Iowa. It is on the land of the Rose Hill Methodist Church.20 Stones were copied by Barbara Hartman, Betty Ankeny, Elaine Artlip, and Eleanor Crawford on July 31, 1973.
