C. Dinham of Valley twp, Page County, died Saturday May 27, 1899 at the age of 73. He was a resident in the home where he died for nearly a quarter of a century, except for a short time while living in Villisca. He leaves his wife, formerly Mrs. Hester Gourley, to mourn his loss. The funeral services conducted by Rev. Newlin of this city occured Sunday afternoon at the North Grove Church. Deceased was a man of real worth and integrity and held the highest esteem of his neighbors. His promises were always performed. His kindness never failing.--Villisca Review Additional Comments: William C Dinham was born near Bath, England in 1825. His first wife, who he married in Newport, Monmouthshire, in 1847, was Ann Orchard (see http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bpready/). He fled to the USA in 1851, abandoning his wife and two children, to avoid prosecution for planning a burglary and disposing of stolen goods. Ann was convicted and exiled to Australia. Both William and Ann remarried (bigamously!) and each has descendants. William's second wife was Mary Allen and their descendants live in the USA. There are descendants of William and Ann living in England; those from Ann's second and third marriages live mostly in Australia.
